I?m interested in evoking a ?feeling of place? in my landscapes, trying to express the inward spirit of the subject. I treat paintings of trees as I would a portrait of a human being. Is that weird? I don?t care!

I took the photo for this painting about 10 years ago and new I just had to paint it but it has taken me until this year to paint it. I like painting unusual subjects and I particularly like painting interesting features in old buildings especially old doors. In the picture I loved the contrast between the light catching the brick work and the shadows in the doorway. My preferred medium is watercolour for this painting I used Arches watercolour paper and Windsor and Newton paints.

Thank you for inviting me to share this work. This piece was inspired by Gustav Klimt?s Adele Bloch-Bauer. His golden phase is inspiring. My work is a combination of acrylic, watercolour crayons, pencil crayons, and oil pastels. I really enjoyed using a combination of media to provide interesting effects and practice new techniques. Many thanks to Joanna Cooke, my art tutor for her inspirational challenges.
